Michelle Fader's work reflects the subconscious mind and the psychological elements symbolized by her subjects. Through the presentation of isolated figures that exist in a delicate balance of awareness, anxiety, and vulnerability, Fader creates portraits that harness a sense of dreamlike disorientation. A constant presence of water throughout the work represents the element's innate ability to be both a creator and destroyer of life, and acts as a metaphor for the duality that can occur deep within the subconscious. This dichotomy is expressed in terms of the subjects' fear or acceptance as they drift through Fader’s cinematic vignettes.

Michelle Fader works as Staff Assistant at Florida Museum of Photographic Arts and is expected to graduate in 2012 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography at the University of South Florida
